FO: Yum Yum Waffle Socks

IMG_5951

My Yum Yum Waffle Socks are done!  I love this stitch pattern (garter ridge rib from Vogue Stitchionary Volume 1 Knit & Purl).  It’s simple enough to knit at work or on the go, but it results in the most pleasingly squishy and textured fabric.  Just like waffles or those soft waffle-weave shirts.

I did a couple of small things that tickle me.  (Sometimes the little things make all the difference in a finished product.)

  • I repositioned the stitches on the top of the foot so that the waffley pattern is set off by a purl stitch on either edge – this helps it pop out from the plain stockinette on the sole.
  • I modified my usual slipped stitch heel (slip 1 knit 1) to flow more seamlessly out of the cuff (slip 2 knit 1).IMG_5842
  • I knit the second cuff one half round shorter than the first so that the “seam” where the pattern jogs is not on the same side of both socks. If the wearer cares, she can wear the seam on the inside of each leg where it will be less noticeable.see the jog

This pattern looks great on a semi-solid handpainted yarn but would also look great in a solid or heathered yarn.

I can definitely see myself knitting this pattern again. But time will tell.  So many socks, so little time!

  1. No, I can't see the jog -- but I can totally understand the satisfaction of creating that symmetry. Beautiful socks!
