Canyonlands Shawl complete!

P1010343 Remember how I ran out of yarn for the Canyonlands Shawl? I had 450 yards to begin with; I ordered 50 more yards on a Sunday and it was here on Wednesday – all the way from the west coast. Talk about great service – thanks, Artfibers.P1010347I blocked it over the weekend and it really opened up. It’s just the right size for a little coverage over the shoulders. (I’ll have you know I put on nice clothes on a Sunday morning just to get these pictures for you.) P1010418Wingtip to wingtip, it measures 52”; the vertical distance at the center point is 16.5”.

The edging really is reminiscent of something natural, undulating but a bit irregular, like a canyon.P1010428 I think this is my mom’s birthday present this year. (By the way, she decided the Vodka Lemonade sweater suited her just fine, so that’s her Christmas present – it is out of my hands now!)

This was taken from inside my back porch so the lighting is weird and the color is off… but you can really see the texture of the whole garment in a cool way. And regular readers will note a view of my compost bin!P1010414We’re getting our back porch rescreened right now, which is how I could tie the shawl into the screen frame and photograph it from both sides.

  1. It's gorgeous! I really like the backlit shot on the unscreened porch. It really shows the shading -- both in the yarn and created by the pattern. Nice!

  2. I'm with Steven; it's gorgeous and I also love how the backlit shot shows off the undulations. Your mom is one lucky gift recipient!
