A Beginning - Mock Wave Cable Sock

I started this sock a couple of weeks ago. It was meant to be my easy office sock. I figured it was all knits and purls, so why not? But it turns out it's not an easy office sock. It's slightly too complicated for office knitting. The chart has a 10-stitch, 16-round repeat and I'm sure I would lose my place if I knit sporadically on this. I took it to an off-campus meeting where I sat in the same place for 3 hours, and it was fine then ... but that's not normally how my office knitting goes.

The yarn is dyed by sKNITches and was one of my Loopy Ewe Sock Club shipments. I love the subtle variation in color. It is 70% superwash merino, 20% bamboo, and 10% nylon.

The pattern is okay. I've said it before and I'll say it again: Ann Budd must be an incredibly tight knitter - the pattern gauge is 9 st/in on a US 3. Wowza! I am getting less than 9 st/in on a US 0 needle. I decided to only cast on 60 stitches with my gauge and ankle size, which is the "child" size in the pattern. I also tried it at 70 stitches but that was just too big. I need to make the cuff a little on the short side since the leg will be fairly snug at 60 stitches around.

There was a mistake in the pattern printed in the book (again). The good news, for you, is that the pattern was in the chart, and the corrected chart is on the Interweave website - you can snag it for free. This pattern would look great in any solid or semi-solid sock yarn. No crazy striping or wild multis, please!

  1. Love the waviness. Great job matching pattern to yarn!
