Sock Summit plans

This year’s registration wasn’t quite as wild and crazy as last time, but it was still heart-pounding.  Literally.  It took me 3 tries to get all the way through the registration process – because by the time I got to the end, a class I had selected was already filled.  There’s not an easy way to jettison a single class and so you have to start over.  Word to the wise: pick teachers who are less well known and it’s easier to get into their classes!  The ones that gave me trouble were a Cookie A class and a Franklin Habit one.

Here is my schedule:

Thursday morning: Explore Shimada’s Socks with Gayle Roehm.  I’m intrigued by these Japanese stitches and this should be interesting.  Plus, part of the homework is obtaining a hard-to-find book.  That sounds right up my alley!

Thursday afternoon: Mad for Plaid with Lorilee Beltman.  This was the time slot where Franklin’s class gave me trouble.  I keep meaning to figure out my colorwork issues and this should help.  Plus, Kris met Lorilee at a wedding earlier this year and really liked her.  Should be good.

Friday morning: Knitting Knee Highs with Barb Brown.  I originally tried to get Cookie A’s Advanced Top Down Sock Design class for all day Friday, but got bumped.  Knee highs – been meaning to knit them for years now!  This will nudge me forward.

Friday afternoon: Making the Next Monkey with Amy Singer.  I just thought it sounded interesting.

Saturday morning: a one-hour lecture with Clara Parkes called Sock Yarn Stories.  I just adore Clara.  Plus, only scheduling a one-hour class in this slot leaves more time for shopping, if needed!

Saturday afternoon: Writing Sock Patterns with JC Briar.  I’d like to learn more about this!

Saturday evening: Stephanie’s lecture entitled This is Your Brain On Knitting

Sunday morning: Twinkle Toes with Syne Mitchell.  What can I say?  I was intrigued by the idea of putting electronics into my socks.  Good geeky fun.

Sunday afternoon: A Bag of Tricks for Stretch and Strength with Clara Parkes.  I loved the class I took with Clara at the last Sock Summit and I love both of her books.  Did you know she’s coming out with a new book in “The Knitter’s Book of” series this fall?  It’s The Knitter’s Book of Socks!  I’ll bet this class is a preview, and I can’t wait!

I didn’t get any swag yet – I didn’t want it to slow me down on the registration website.  I’ll do that later today or tomorrow.  I definitely want the bumper sticker pictured above!

Now I’m on pins and needles waiting to hear how Kris made out.  I daren’t call her.

  1. Kris "made out" just fine...although there were several moments when she thought, just maybe, that her blood pressure medicine might fail her! Seriously...it was pretty stupid to hit the "refresh" button one minute before registration began! But I've got Knitting Sleuth with Cat Bordhi, Sock Design with Anne Hansen, and A Bag of Tricks for Stretch & Strength with Clara Parkes. I'm thrilled!

  2. Congratulations to both you and Kris. Looks like you got some good classes. I love that part of your preparation involves tracking down a rare book.

Glad it was less stressful than last time. No sitting on a Gettysburg sidewalk try to get through this time!
