There HAS been knitting...

While acknowledging that my attention has been split between knitting, spinning, and weaving (with spinning definitely getting the short end of the stick), there HAS been some knitting over the past month.

This is a small project but one that took some attention - a pair of Seol Gansey fingerless mitts:

You may recognize this pattern - I've already made a pair for S1 in yellow. This is Di Gilpin's Lalland yarn that I got in Scotland. For this pair, I converted the pattern to be worked in the round instead of flat and seamed. This resulted in using a bit less yarn (which was good, since it was a real yarn chicken nail biter last time), eliminating a bulky seam, and of course eliminating the entire step of seaming. It took some mental attention, but I did it. And I took notes so I can do it again - I have one more ball of this yarn to make a pair for myself! I'm putting these in the Christmas pile and they will go to my mom (who doesn't read this so I'm not worried about spoiling the surprise).

I've also been plugging away at my Sempervirens sweater in fits and starts. This is very much NOT portable, as it's big and a bit complicated and I like to have my spreadsheet set up in a music stand by my side while I'm working on it. Here's the view:

Sometimes it's hard to remember why I thought knitting a long cardigan with tons of positive ease out of light fingering weight yarn was a great idea... seriously, what was I thinking? I really want to be able to wear this come spring, so I guess I'd better keep going now! It's not much to look at but I promise it's getting bigger:

Finally, I have news to report: my Bedragonned hat has been re-homed. It came out a little big on me. Last weekend when I was packing to go on a quick visit to Austin to visit my college chum, Steph, I thought about gifts I could take with me. I suddenly remembered that Steph's head is bigger than mine (of course I knew this because I made her a pussyhat a few years ago and measured her head), so I took it to her. She looks GREAT in hats and this one is no exception!
This photo was taken somewhere near the Capitol - we went to the Texas Book Festival on Saturday. Austin's mural scene keeps heating up. There was also fantastic food all weekend, including this stuff at Magnolia Cafe called Mag Mud - it's a bowl with black beans, avocado, and pico topped with queso. You scoop it up on chips and it's like manna from heaven, if heaven were Texas.
I took Don one of my handwoven towels. I am trying to be less precious about them, and both GIVE and USE them more. I hope Don uses his a lot! We also ate vegan ice cream, Tex-Mex brunch, and Japanese food. I'm still kind of full from the trip, to tell the truth. But in the best way! And of course I brought home a ton of tortillas in my suitcase (which TSA searched because of said tortillas).

The careful viewer will also spy yarn in my suitcase. I'll tell you about that when I figure out what to do with it! But yes, it's my color.
