I finished the first sock of the Fjordland pair. This colorwork business sure leaves a lot of ends to weave in:

I am very pleased with the way the short row heel came out – it’s my best to date. However, a short row heel just isn’t as roomy as a flap heel, and that can be an issue for the feet in my family. My stranded knitting is kind of tight (I’m still getting the hang of it), which makes the main fabric of these socks not so stretchy… which means the not-so-roomy heel does not help with fit.
It’ll be interesting to see if Sock #2 comes out the same size as Sock #1, or if my tension will change.
I’m anxious to cast on for #2, but that will have to wait until tomorrow…

I love seeing the guts of this sock. Would it be possible to carry some of these strands vertically up the sock? You wouldn't want little toes to catch, though...
ReplyDeleteI've tried doing a thing where I twist the yarn with every stitch a few stitches on either side of the color change, kind of like you would do with a stranded steek. But that's only slightly less annoying that weaving in ends.
Do you have a thicker patch where all the weaving in is? Is it on the side? The top? The sole?
Very, very cool sock. I'm sure B2 loves it!
